The authentic Tibetan Buddhist Game of Liberation, devised by Sakya Pandita in the 13th century and translated by Mark Tatz & Jody Kent. Its 104 squares ascend from the Vajra Hell, up through the six realms and the three vehicles — the Disciple, the Solitary Buddha, and the great Mahayana — and the swift Tantric path, to Nirvana and full Buddhahood. Every square is both a cosmological station and an inner state of mind the player passes through in the play (lila) of liberation.

How to playRules for this board

Cast a single die and step onto the board with your first throw — no six needed. From then on each square carries its own fate: the number you roll may open a virtuous path upward, plunge you into a lower realm, or step you onward. Land exactly on the final square to reach liberation.
