Square 59: Plane of Reality (Satya-Loka) – Perceiving Absolute Truth Beyond Appearances

Square fifty-nine of your Leela journey brings you to Satya-Loka, the Plane of Reality — the realm of absolute truth that lies beyond appearances. Landing here connects you with the dimension where reality is perceived directly, without distortion or conceptual overlay. This is a marker square for the Sahasrara, the seventh (crown) chakra, which is anchored here at square 59. To arrive on the Plane of Reality is to stand, however briefly, in the place where things are seen as they actually are.

What is Satya-Loka?

In Sanskrit, satya means "truth" or "that which is real," and loka means "plane," "realm," or "world." Satya-Loka is therefore the plane of truth: the level of being where essence is directly perceived rather than inferred, imagined, or projected. It teaches that beneath the shifting play of phenomena — thoughts, moods, circumstances, forms that arise and pass — lies an unchanging reality. When perception is purified, that foundational truth becomes apparent, revealing the essence that underlies and transcends all forms.

Encountering Satya-Loka in Leela invites you to loosen your grip on how you wish things were, and to meet reality as it is. Much of ordinary experience is filtered through concepts, preferences, and half-conscious stories. On the Plane of Reality, those overlays thin out, and what remains is simply the truth of the moment.

The Lesson of the Plane of Reality

Satya-Loka asks you to seek and honor truth in every dimension of life:

  • See without distortion: Notice where your perception is coloured by desire, fear, or old assumptions — and gently set those filters aside so you can meet what is actually here.
  • Value essence over appearance: Look past surfaces and reputations to the substance beneath. What is genuinely true rarely needs to advertise itself.
  • Build a life of integrity: Living in accordance with truth — in speech, in action, and in how you regard yourself — is what prepares the ground for ultimate realization.

This square rewards honesty as a spiritual discipline. Truth is not only something to be discovered; it is something to be lived. By committing to reality as it is, rather than as you would prefer it to be, you begin to align your whole life with what is real.

Key Insights from Satya-Loka

  • Unchanging beneath the changing: Phenomena come and go, but the reality that perceives them does not flicker. Resting attention there brings a deep, quiet stability.
  • Purified perception: As the mind grows less reactive, seeing becomes clearer. Clarity is less about acquiring new information and more about removing the overlays that obscure what is already present.
  • Integrity as foundation: A life built on truth can bear weight. Honesty with yourself is the precondition for every further step toward realization.

Reflective Questions

Sit quietly with these before rolling again:

  • Where in my life am I seeing things as I wish they were rather than as they are?
  • What truth about myself or my situation have I been reluctant to acknowledge — and what would change if I met it directly?
  • When my perception is calm and unhurried, what remains steady beneath the noise?

A Practice: Meeting Reality As It Is

Use this short practice to settle into direct, undistorted perception:

  • Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and let your breath find its own rhythm.

  • Rest your attention lightly at the crown of your head — the seat of the Sahasrara chakra anchored on this square.

  • As thoughts and images arise, notice how each one is a kind of overlay on the present moment. Let each dissolve, without following it.

  • Silently affirm:

"I meet reality as it is. I honour the truth beneath all appearances."

  • Sit with whatever remains when the commentary quiets — the simple fact of being here, now, aware.

Carry this same honesty into ordinary life: one truthful word, one clear-eyed choice, one moment of seeing without the filter.

Moving Forward in the Game

The Plane of Reality steadies your perception and roots you in truth, preparing you for the discernment that comes next on the board — Square 60: Positive Intellect (Subuddhi), where clear seeing matures into wise judgment.

Roll the dice again, grounded in reality as it is.
